Skyfall

Since yesterday, I had contemplated going to the movies today. It's been a while since I've seen a show on the big screen and I thought, "There isn't even really anything playing right now that I think is worth the $12." But I left work on such a shitty note, I just had to do something to get outta the funk. (And it was a real shitty note- seven hours and forty-five minutes of my shift was pretty great. And then one person, just one, ruined it- just as I was on my way out the door!) So before I could even get out of the store, I called the fiancé and said, "Look up movie showtimes, I wanna see a show."

We decided on Skyfall. This marked my first James Bond movie. In fact, I think it's the first action/spy movie I've sat through, beginning to end. Well, I watched Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy when it was in theaters but it didn't have much action, did it.

Skyfall was great. From the first chase scene, to the final epic battle, I was gripping my poor fiancé's arm with anticipation. I also finally understand what all the hype around Daniel Craig is about.

I mean, don't you?

Yeah. That's what I thought.

I mean, just go see the film. If his looks don't do it for you, his first three lines of dialogue in that accent will. 

But back to the film. I didn't know Ralph Fiennes was in it and when I found that out, I immediately suspected him as the bad guy. Spoiler alert, or maybe it isn't- he's not the bad guy. And Fiennes is just as great in a supporting role as he is in a starring one. 

I think my favorite part was the final battle, which took place in a mini Scottish castle set in the middle of nowhere. As beautiful as the country house was, I didn't feel bad that it was totally destroyed, 007-style. (I mean, I'm assuming, since I've never seen a 007 film before this one.) 

I was so pleasantly surprised to see the old-Ewan-McGregor-from-Big-Fish in the movie that I just knew he was going to be killed, it was too good for him to be in the movie. But he wasn't, which was a great relief. I don't think I could have handled it if he did. 

I walked out of the theater really glad that we decided to go see it. And it only cost the fiancé $12 for our tickets, since we went during matinee hours. But it's definitely worth full price. 

Needless to say, I've got some sorta fever. The film left me inspired. 

I've had martinis before. But this will be the first one I finish. I prefer my gin straight. On the rocks. Poured. In a highball glass. Stirred with tonic water and two limes.
